Gov. Chris Christie today grabbed two new endorsements in Lakewood, receiving support from both the township’s mayor and its Orthodox Jewish community.

At a rally today Christie received endorsements from the Igud and Vaad, two influential organizations made up of rabbis, businessmen, educational and local leaders.

Republican Mayor Albert Akerman also endorsed the governor for re-election in November. “We value Governor Christie’s partnership, his friendship and his willingness to confront many of the state’s challenges directly, all of which benefit Lakewood’s taxpayers and families,” said Rabbi Shlomo Kanarek, who heads the Igud.

The Jewish leaders are the latest group to throw their endorsement to Christie after endorsing Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine in 2009.
