14th District GOP Candidates Defend Vet’s Preference

HAMILTON — Republican candidates for the 14th District legislative seats say they want the Civil Service Commission to preserve “veteran’s preference” in proposed civil service reforms that would allow hiring managers more flexibility to fill new positions from within the current workforce.

In a news release, Senate candidate Peter Inverso asked that the commission ensure veterans be given any opportunities when such positions are open.

“All parties involved are interested in keeping the promises we have made to our veterans,” Inverso said. “Ultimately, I know that the only way to protect veteran’s preference is to work collaboratively with all stakeholders and the Civil Service Commission to protect veteran’s preference.”
