Chris Christie cruises: Governor coasts to second term with big win over Barbara Buono

Gov. Chris Christie, a hard-charging federal prosecutor turned political celebrity, trounced Democrat Barbara Buono on Tuesday, easily winning re-election in a race viewed as a precursor to a bid for the White House.

It was the first time a Republican took more than 50 percent of the popular vote in a statewide election in New Jersey since President George H.W. Bush did so a quarter century ago. Even in a blue state, one-third of Democrats voted for Christie, rejecting Buono, a state senator whose candidacy seemed doomed from the start as party leaders abandoned her for the popular governor.
