NJGOP Chairman Welcomes Senate President Sweeney To The Fight Against Years Of Democrat Tax Proposals
.
Trenton, NJ – Following Senate President Sweeney’s performance on 101.5’s “Ask The Senate President”, NJGOP Chairman Steinhardt released the following statement:
.

“If imitation is the ultimate flattery, we here at NJGOP are blushing. Senate President Steve Sweeney and his policy staff have obviously been spending a lot of time on NJGOP.org and following us @NJGOP on Twitter. When we tuned in yesterday to NJ 101.5’s “Ask the Senate President”, we thought we were listening to ourselves.
.
The NJGOP has been steadfast in its opposition to Governor Murphy’s plans to grow state government and raise additional taxes, calling it irresponsible. After GOP Senators called his proposal a step backwards, the Senator even backed off of his own business tax proposal just three weeks after we questioned it. Sweeney’s 12% corporate tax would turn NJ’s already inhospitable business and residential climates into the least tax friendly in the Country. So, we are flattered to hear the Senator come to terms with what we’ve stated for so long: NJ has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. It’s time to bring common-sense to Trenton.
.
The largest coalition of supporters for his new direction is the Republican members of the Senate who have been preaching this agenda for years. Time will tell whether Sweeney has finally accepted our Republican values and if he’s willing to break NJ’s special interests’ vice grip on Trenton or whether this is all just lip service paid to a tax weary New Jersey populace. In the meantime anyway, welcome aboard Senator, we’re happy to work with you on making sure the Governor’s dangerous budget never sees the light of day.”
