Chris Christie: Remember, Resolve, Rebuild

A leader is a dealer in hope.

While that quote is attributed to Napoleon, it was put into practice last week by Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey. The day after the devastating fire the destroyed part of the boardwalk at Seaside Park and Seaside Heights – an area that had just been rebuilt after Hurricane Sandy – Christie said he would not let the people down. “I will not permit all the work we’ve done over the last 10 months to be diminished or destroyed by what happened last night.”

Earlier in the day Christie revealed his more human side when he was quotedas saying “I told my staff, ‘I feel like I want to throw up’… After all the effort and time and resources that we’ve put in to help the folks of Seaside Heights and Seaside Park rebuild, as I said, [this fire is] just unthinkable.” But as governor Christie understands that it is his job to mobilize resources to rebuild.Christie’s remarks, backed by his sense of resolve, are designed to buck up a people who have been twice battered. Very importantly the Governor looked forward as he stood at the scene of devastation. “While we have lost a place that has provided generations of memories to our citizens, we will rebuild. We will make new memories, because that’s what we do.
