NJGOP Releases Names Of 29 High-Ranking Democrat Elected Officials And Candidates Who Have Stayed Silent On Menendez Senate Candidacy

Trenton, NJ – The NJGOP is today publishing the names of 29 high-ranking Democratic elected officials who have remained silent on the Bob Menendez for Senate campaign, neither endorsing his candidacy or denouncing his conduct.

As Bob Hugin racks up endorsements from Republicans and Democrats around New Jersey, Senator Menendez is struggling to solidify  support within his own party.

This was foreshadowed when Menendez won just 62% of the vote in the democratic primary against an unknown candidate who spent no money.

Among the 2018 Democratic Congressional candidates and members of the State Senate and Assembly, 29 officials and candidates are avoiding association with the damaged Senator; 30 if you count Governor Phil Murphy, whose well-timed trip to Europe lets him avoid confrontation with the press on his campaign and Administration’s questionable hiring practices and collaboration with Senator Menendez on the campaign trail.

NJGOP Chairman Doug Steinhardt offered the following comment:

“If New Jersey’s Democrats have such a public aversion to Senator Bob Menendez as a party leader, why do they remain silent? Just which way do their moral compasses point? If the 29 Democratic standard bearers reflected on this list aren’t willing to stand with their own US Senator, then voters deserve to know that.  And if they are, then voters deserve to know that too.”
