NJGOP statement on Mazzeo voting to raise taxes on seniors and low and middle income New Jerseyans

.
Trenton, NJ- This week, the New Jersey Assembly voted for a short term budget to carry the state through the end of the extended fiscal year. Included in that budget were total cuts to the senior freeze, and cuts to the homestead benefit.

Chairman Steinhardt said:

“Atlantic County has the highest unemployment rate in New Jersey, and suffered another gut-punch this week when Gov Murphy shut down more economic activity. Somehow, Assemblyman Vincent Mazzeo thought this was a good time to raise taxes on the elderly and middle class in LD2, by zeroing out the senior freeze and the homestead benefit.  Making matters worse, this week Governor Murphy fully funded his union cronies’ pension program, and cut a sweetheart deal with public employees to guarantee jobs amidst unprecedented turmoil. Mazzeo is clearly on board with Murphy’s private sector pain and public sector gain plan.
As we move towards the 2021 election, NJGOP will make sure that voters in LD2 know that in the midst of 33% unemployment in Atlantic County, Mazzeo voted to jack up axes on the elderly and middle class. We’re confident his constituents will punish him for that at the polls next fall.”
