NJGOP Chairman On Murphy’s Sanctuary State Policy

Trenton, NJ – Yesterday, New Jersey’s Attorney General issued a directive to local law enforcement that solidified New Jersey’s status as a Sanctuary State.

NJGOP Chairman Doug Steinhardt offered the following statement in reaction:

“The chief concern stemming from New Jersey’s, newest ‘sanctuary state’ policy should be the decision to start down the slippery slope of arbitrarily choosing which federal laws we follow and which we don’t. It sets a dangerous and potentially confusing precedent.  Moreover, it drives a wedge between state and federal law enforcement officers at a time when we should be communicating proactively to address the nation’s underlying immigration issues, rather than reactively pretending they don’t exist.”
