Voter Registration
In New Jersey, you must register to vote 21 days before the election you would like to vote in. You can register to vote in the following ways:
- Register to vote online or
- Download and complete the NJ Voter Registration Form

Three Ways to Vote
1. Vote-by-Mail Ballot
Registered voters can apply for vote-by-mail ballot online or by printing an application and submitting it to the County Clerk in the voter’s county. Instructions can be found here.
You can VOTE and RETURN your ballot one of the following ways:
Mail: Your vote-by-mail ballot MUST be postmarked on or before 8:00 p.m. on Election Day and be received by your county’s Board of Elections on or before the sixth day after the close of the polls.
Secure Ballot Drop Box: Place your vote-by-mail ballot in one of your county’s secure ballot drop boxes by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Drop box locations can be found here.
Board of Elections Office: Deliver your vote-by-mail ballot in person to your county’s Board of Elections Office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. County Election Officials’ contact information can be found here.
2. In-Person Early Voting
Registered voters may cast their ballots in person, using a voting machine, during in-person early voting period prior to Election Day. No matter where you live in the county, you can vote your specific ballot at any of your county’s designated in-person early voting locations. Find your county’s locations here.
Early voting locations are open from at least 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays, and from at least 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. No appointment is necessary. Accommodations will be made for voters with disabilities.
2026 Early Voting Dates
Special CD 11 Election:
Primary Election: January 29, 2026 through February 3, 2026
General Election: April 6, 2026 through April 14, 2026
Regular Elections:
Primary Election: May 26, 2026 through May 31, 2026
General Election: October 24, 2026 through November 1, 2026
3. Election Day Voting
Vote in-person at your polling place from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. To find your polling place, click here for the polling locations page.
2026 Election Dates
Special CD 11 Election:
Primary Election: February 5, 2026
General Election: April 16, 2026
Regular Elections:
Primary Election: June 2, 2026
General Election: November 3, 2026
Military and Overseas Civilian Voters
Members of the military and United States civilians who are overseas on Election Day may still vote in the election by mail, email, or fax.
Such voters must meet the following criteria:
Military Voters
- A “military voter” is a voter who is absent from his or her New Jersey residence on Election Day; and is entitled to vote whether he or she is living elsewhere in New Jersey (i.e. a military installation), outside of New Jersey or outside the United States.
- A “military voter” includes New Jersey citizens who are members of the Uniformed Services, Merchant Marine, Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
- A spouse or dependent of a member of the military or other uniformed services is also considered to be a “military voter”.
Overseas Voters
- An “overseas voter” is a voter who is living outside of the United States and who was residing in New Jersey immediately prior to departure.
Note: The “overseas voter” need not have been registered to vote in New Jersey prior to going outside of the United States, but must possess the qualifications to register and vote in New Jersey.

In order to obtain a ballot, you can mail, fax, or email a vote-by-mail application or a federal postcard application (“FPCA”) here.
Note: ONLY the federal postcard application (“FPCA”) can be used for both voter registration and ballot request. If you use the New Jersey forms, you must separately submit a New Jersey voter registration form and a New Jersey mail-in ballot application.
Delivery of Ballot Application
You can mail, fax, or email the application.
Applications must be received not later than 30 days prior to an election to receive a mail-in ballot by air mail. If you would like to receive and vote by fax or email the applications must be received no later than 4 days prior to the election.
Mail, fax, or email completed applications to the County Clerk in your county.
Delivery Options for Receiving a Ballot
You can request to receive a ballot by air-mail, fax, or email.
- If you request to receive a ballot by fax, you must provide a fax number on the application.
- If you request to receive a ballot by email, you must provide an email address on the application.
If you do not receive your ballot in a timely manner, you may use a Federal Write-In Ballot (FWAB) for federal elections. To get a FWAB, click here.
