The six political committees tied to New Jersey’s main political parties raised nearly $1.5 million in the three months three months of 2013, according to a state Election Law Enforcement Commission report released Wednesday.
Combined, they spent just under $600,000 with legislative and a gubernatorial election looming in November.
Yet the six political committees have the smallest reserve entering into a gubernatorial election year since 2001, a fact that commission executive director Jeff Brindle attributes to tight contribution limits and a surge in spending by outside groups seeking to influence New Jersey elections.
The New Jersey Republican State Committee outraised its Democratic counterpart, bringing in nearly $400,000 compared with the more than $100,000 raised by its Democratic counterpart.
