TRENTON — In the battle for the state Legislature, Republican political committees trying to win control of both houses have raised $438,000 more than Democrats this year, according to a report released today.

The Election Law Enforcement Commission reported that the New Jersey GOP’s state committee and its Senate and Assembly fundraising groups have raised $1.9 million in the first six months of 2013, compared with $1.5 million for the three major Democratic committees.

Democrats defending their majorities have spent more money, however, unloading $1 million while Republicans spent $873,000.

All 120 legislative seats are up for election on Nov. 5, at the same time that Gov. Chris Christie will face off with state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex) in the governor’s race.
