New Jersey Republican County Chairs Elect New Leadership

August 14, 2014

On Wednesday, August 13, the Association of New Jersey Republican County Chairs convened to elect the organization’s new leadership. New Jersey’s GOP County Chairs voted to elect Hudson County GOP Chairman Jose Arango as the new Chair of Chairs. Chairman Arango’s election is a historic moment, as the first Cuban American to ever serve as the Chair of the Association of New Jersey Republican County Chairs. Chairman Arango was first elected in 1985 to represent Hudson County in the New Jersey Assembly and later was elected Chairman of the Hudson County GOP in 1989.

Chairman Samuel Raia issued the following statement on the election of Hudson County GOP Chairman Jose Arango as the new Chair of Chairs:

“I’d first like to applaud the entire Association of New Jersey Republican Chairmen on electing new leadership yesterday evening, and in doing so, electing Hudson County GOP Chairman Jose Arango to serve as the organization’s first-ever Hispanic Chair. This is an exciting moment for the NJGOP, and I am proud to have someone like Chairman Arango leading our County Chairmen as we approach the midterm elections. But just as important is the network of support that the NJGOP will continue to build even past election day, and I am confident Chairman Arango will be critical in our efforts to growing our strong network of grassroots supporters in the Hispanic community.”

“I commend Governor Christie for his actions today to veto higher taxes and instead, make the tough but fiscally responsible decisions in signing his FY 2015 Budget. The reality is that we can no longer afford to ignore the long-term consequences of our state’s spending problem and rely on the already overburdened taxpayers of New Jersey to foot the bill. Today’s actions once again, show Governor Christie’s commitment to building a better New Jersey by investing in education, health care, and job creation while also protecting New Jerseyans from Democrats’ failed tax and spend agenda.”

“The budget approved yesterday by Democrats in the Legislature once again fails to provide viable long-term solutions to the fiscal challenges caused by out of control public employee entitlement costs. For the fifth year in a row, Trenton Democrats have proposed taxing our way out of New Jersey’s spending problem and I would strongly support Governor Christie’s veto of these tax increases as he has done each year before.”
